The Producer

Wine has been produced on this property for approximately 150 years, but it is only from 1988 that its current owner, Júlio Bastos, begins to commercialize nationally and internationally the wines then produced in this Quinta, the famous Garrafeiras of 1985, 1986 and 1987, which have always been recognized for their great quality. In 1992, Júlio Bastos, intending to ensure his growth and, at the same time, the flow of production, sells 50% of Sociedade Agrícola Quinta do Carmo to Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). It was at that time that the old cellar was transferred from Quinta de Dona Maria or Quinta do Carmo to Herdade das Carvalhas, a property that, from that date, became part of the Society. Having never stopped thinking about making his own wine again, it was at the beginning of the new millennium that this opportunity arose. Júlio Bastos then decides to sell his stake in Sociedade Agrícola Quinta do Carmo, and resumes this new project, Dona Maria wines.
