Wine production at the Quinta has been centered for centuries on Port wine but also on small quantities of white and red wine for the exclusive consumption of the family. After the phylloxera disaster, a program to modernize the vineyards and winery was carried out, starting in 1932, paying special attention to the production of Douro, red and white wines, and Vintage Port, from traditional grape varieties, with most modern methods of winemaking. Under the leadership of Miguel Champalimaud, who from 1976 took charge of the production of Quinta do Côtto wines, we witnessed the establishment of the concept of Quinta Wines which, for the past 30 years, has been the structuring concept of vitiviniculture and Portuguese oenology. Since then, gradually, as a result of their increasing quality, Quinta Wines have established themselves and gained market and reputation throughout Europe. The referred evolution was possible, thanks to the consolidation of the Quinta Wine concept, led by Quinta do Côtto. Today, for European wine lovers, being a Quinta Wine means that, in addition to being produced and bottled in a specific terroir, the Quinta, that wine was carefully produced and selected by its owner, which guarantees its quality. , personality and authenticity without which no good wine is great wine.
