The Producer

Behind a great wine there is always a great story. In the case of Grão Vasco, it is written with words of dedication, rigor, innovation, experience and passion. Words that tell the past, the present and the future. A beginning that dates back to the end of the 50s, in a small regional company - Vinícola do Super-Dão Ltd.

Acquired in 1957 by Sogrape Vinhos, the company then changed its name to Sogrape Vinícola do Vale do Dão. Two years later, Grão Vasco was born, a wine whose name pays homage to the pseudonym adopted five centuries earlier by the famous Portuguese painter Vasco Fernandes (1480-1543). At the time, the Director of the Grão Vasco Museum, in Viseu, granted Sogrape Vinhos authorization request to use the name and image of the famous painter, thus allowing the birth of a brand that has become an emblematic reference of the national wine panorama. The portrait of "S. Pedro", considered his masterpiece, is still part of the brand image, being reproduced on its labels.
